Elena Elster (Wiesbaden, Germany/Lawrenceville School) netted two goals and junior midfielder
Aubrey Bruggeman (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) had three assists as Georgetown defeated Virginia Commonwealth, 3-1, on Sept. 30. The Hoyas remain unbeaten with an 8-0 record.
The Hoyas got on the board at 18:32, as senior midfielder Sarah Oglesby (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and Bruggeman set up Elster's first goal of the game. Less than three minutes later, Bruggeman set up another Georgetown goal. At 21:08, Bruggeman assisted on freshman forward Leeanne Rizzo's (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) fourth goal of the season, giving Georgetown a 2-0 lead. However, the Rams cut the lead to one, as Tavris Parker was able to score for Virginia Commonwealth.
The Hoyas took control in the second half, outshooting the Rams 10-5. Elster scored her second goal of the game, and ninth of the season off a penalty corner at 50:21. Again, Bruggeman and Oglesby had the assists. Elster currently leads the team with 20 points, while Bruggeman is not far behind with 14. Oglesby leads the team with seven assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Herring (Ocean, N.J./Ocean Township) had nine saves and earned her eighth win in a game where the Hoyas never trailed. In a losing effort for the Rams, Anne Forrester had two saves and Abby Stiles had four. The Hoyas will be in action again as they host Stanford University on Wednesday, October 4, at 4 p.m.
