WASHINGTON D.C. (Apr. 26) - Second baseman Mike Green's (McLean, Va./Landon School) RBI single in the top of the 11th inning proved to be the game-winning hit as Georgetown (13-34) rallied to defeat Catholic 6-5 in baseball on Wednesday afternoon at DuFour Field. The victory snaps a seven-game losing streak for GU.
Cardinal pitcher Drew Zachry belted a two-run home run to left center in the second inning to give Catholic (21-15-1) a 2-1 lead. The Hoyas tied the game at 2-2 at the top of the third before the Cardinals posted three runs in the bottom of the frame to go up 5-2. GU scored a run in the seventh and two runs in the eighth off first baseman Eric Sutton's (So., Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) two-run single to tie the game at five. Right fielder Brian Cassese (Jr., Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) scored the winning run behind Green's heroics in the 11th.
Catcher Pat Wade (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown) went 3-4 and scored a run to lead GU. Center fielder Jim Vankoski (Jr., Aston, Pa./Strath Haven) was 2-for-4 with a double. Zachry added a 2-for-3 day and scored two runs for CUA.
The Hoyas play Mount St. Mary's on Thursday, April 27, at 3:00 p.m. on the GU Baseball Diamond.
