Boston College Sweeps Georgetown In Doubleheader

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 29) - The Georgetown University Hoyas fell to the Boston College Eagles by scores of 11-2 and 21-5 in BIG EAST baseball doubleheader action on April 29, at the GU Baseball Stadium. The Hoyas drop to 13-37 overall and 1-20 in BIG EAST play, while the Eagles improve to 30-14 overall and 10-9 in Conference play.

Sophomore second baseman Mike Green (McLean, Va./Landon School) scored both GU runs on the day in game one. Junior left fielder Marc Carlini (Alexandria, Va./Episcopal) and freshman shortstop Matt Carullo (Oakton, Va./Paul IV) recorded a RBI each, while Carlini notched two hits and Carullo one. Georgetown hurler Eric Sutton (So., Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach), who was credited with the loss, pitched five innings and Paul Perillo (So., Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Ardsley) two. Sutton allowed seven runs off nine hits, while Perillo permitted four runs off four hits. First baseman Stephen Langone and DH Joe Kealty led Boston College. Langone belted in four runs and posted two hits and two runs, while Kealty knocked in three runs and tallied three hits and one run. Andrew Sullivan pitched seven innings, allowing just two runs off nine hits en route to the 11-2 win.

Georgetown came out inspired in game two, scoring five runs in the first inning to take a 5-0 advantage, but it would be short-lived as BC pitcher Brendan Nolan clamped down on the mound. Boston College got on the scoreboard in the second inning with two runs, then continued to pick up momentum. The Eagles scored five runs in the fourth, two in the sixth, then capped off the game with four runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to cruise to a 21-5 victory.

Carlini, Brian Cassese (Jr., Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester), Jim Vankoski (Jr., Aston, Pa./Strath Haven), Eric Santana (Jr., Santurce, P.R.[Edgewood, Md.]/Edgewood) and Jason Boice (Fr., Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) scored the five Hoya runs. Santana batted in three runs, while Boice and Pat Wade (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown) brought in the other two. Nine players scored for the Eagles, with centerfielder Brian Durkin registering four runs in the victory. Durkin's stats also included three RBI and two hits in four at bats.

Nolan earned the win for the Eagles, pitching six innings while allowing five runs on seven hits. Vankoski, who picked up the loss on the mound for GU, pitched 4.2 innings and gave up seven runs on 10 hits.

Georgetown returns to action on April 30, in game three against Boston College at 12:00 Noon on the GU Baseball Stadium.
