Georgetown's baseball team opened its 2001 season with a pair of games at William & Mary over the weekend. Sophomore
Jason Boice (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) scored and sophomore
Robert O'Hare (San Jose, Calif./Mission College) went 2 for 3 with an RBI on Saturday as the Hoyas fell to the Tribe, 7-1. Boice reached base in the second inning on an error by the William & Mary shortstop, then made it home on a double to left center by O'Hare. Senior
Randy Erwin (Miami, Fla./Southwest Miami) picked up the loss for the Hoyas after pitching six innings. William & Mary's Whit Farr got the win.
Senior Jay Catalano (Hunting Valley, Ohio/Univ. School) drove in two runs as four Georgetown players reached home plate on Sunday's 12-4 loss. The Hoyas notched their first score in the sixth inning as senior Jim Vankoski (Aston, Pa./Strath Haven) scored. After being walked with two outs, Vankoski advanced to second on a single by Boice. O'Hare then singled to right field to drive in the run. In the ninth inning, Catalano doubled down the left field line to bring home freshman Carlos Gazitua (Miami, Fla./Monsignor Pace) and senior Marc Carlini (Alexandria, Va./Episcopal). Junior Phil Pierorazio (Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastdale) also scored in the ninth off a Gazitua single to right field. Junior Eric Sutton (Deefield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) picked up the loss for the Hoyas while William & Mary's Mark Harris earned the win.
The Hoyas are now 0-2 to start the season. They will travel to Durham, NC this weekend, February 17-18, to play Duke.
