WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Senior All-American attacker Sheehan Stanwick and junior All-American attacker Erin Elbe tallied four goals each to lead the #3 Georgetown University Hoyas to a 16-3 season-opening victory over the Towson University Tigers in women's lacrosse action today on Kehoe Field. The win was Georgetown's 12th-straight on Kehoe Field. Junior attacker Nichole Wittelsberger led the Tigers with two goals.

Georgetown jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Towson could get on the scoreboard. Elbe and Stanwick posted GU's first four goals of the game, while sophomore midfielder Liz Ryan added the fifth-straight score of the day at 19:26. Wittelsberger finally answered for the Tigers at the 17:10 mark when she capitalized off a free position shot. It would be Towson's last score of the half. The Hoyas closed out the first period with seven-consecutive goals. Stanwick and Elbe notched their third goal of the day at 11:29 and 7:05 respectively. Ryan, senior Sarah Oglesby, junior attacker Wick Stanwick, and freshman midfielders Melissa Ellers and Gloria Lozano contributed a goal apiece to put Georgetown up 12-1 at halftime.

Elbe opened the second period with her fourth goal of the contest just one minute, three seconds into the second stanza to give GU a 13-1 advantage. Wittelsberger made it 13-2 with 25:00 on the clock off an assist from sophomore midfielder Melissa Garner. Ten minutes later, Sheehan Stanwick found the back of the net for her fourth tally of the day. Junior defender Katie Hayes responded for the Tigers with 13:19 on the clock to make the score 14-3. Wick Stanwick reeled off back-to-back goals (with 11:55 and 10:13 left in the contest) to give Georgetown the 16-3 win.

Junior All-American goalie Bowen Holden posted eight saves on the day for Georgetown to earn the win, while freshman netminders Autumn Lundgren and Jessica O'Connell combined for 13 saves for Towson. Lundgren turned away eight Hoya shots while allowing three goals, while O'Connell rejected five GU shots and allowed 12 goals. The Hoyas outshot the Tigers 38-7 and held a 15-5 advantage on draws.

The Hoyas take to the road for their next three games. Georgetown returns home on Saturday, March 17, when #9 Syracuse pays a visit to Kehoe Field at 1:00 p.m.
