WASHINGTON – The No. 22/23 Georgetown women's lacrosse team (8-3) extended its winning streak to three games on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Drexel University Dragons (4-7) 17-8 at Vidas Field. Senior
Gracie Driggs paced the Hoya offense with a game-high seven points as the Blue & Gray maintained their perfect road record (6-0) this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgetown's offense ignited early, jumping out to a 6-1 lead in the opening period. Driggs and
Maia Pronti each netted two goals in the first 15 minutes to establish a cushion the Hoyas would never relinquish.
Drexel attempted a surge in the second quarter, outscoring Georgetown 5-4 behind a hat trick from Anne Madden to cut the lead to 10-6 at the half. However, the Hoya defense made critical adjustments during the intermission, effectively silencing the Dragons for the remainder of the contest.
The Hoyas dominated the second half, outscoring Drexel 7-2 across the final two periods.
Anne McGovern and
Reagan Ziegler fueled a 4-1 third-quarter run, while the defense held the Dragons to just one goal in each of the final two frames. A late scoring strike from
Della Goodman capped off the 17-8 final.
