No. 22/23 Georgetown Set for Midweek Non-Conference Clash at Drexel

WASHINGTON – The No. 22/23 Georgetown women's lacrosse team (7-3, 2-0 BIG EAST) steps away from conference play tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, April 1, as the Hoyas travel to Philadelphia to face the Drexel University Dragons (4-6, 1-2 CAA) at Vidas Field. Opening draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
Georgetown enters Wednesday's matchup riding a wave of momentum following a dominant 18-7 victory over UConn in their BIG EAST home opener last Saturday. The Hoyas showcased their offensive depth in the win, sparked by a career-high nine points from junior Anne McGovern and a season-high five goals from Sophia Loschert.

The Blue & Gray defense continues to be a cornerstone of their success, holding opponents to single-digit scoring in two of their last three contests. Graduate goalkeeper Leah Warehime, who currently leads the BIG EAST in save percentage, anchors a unit that has proven particularly effective in the closing stages of games, most recently holding UConn scoreless for the entire fourth quarter.

Offensively, the Hoyas are led by McGovern, who was recently named the BIG EAST Attacker of the Week after her standout performance against the Huskies. She is joined by senior Gracie Driggs, a Tewaaraton Award Watch List selection, who leads the squad in goals. The Hoya attack has been bolstered by the playmaking of Lauren Steer, who ranks among the conference leaders in assists.

ABOUT THE DRAGONS
Drexel (4-6, 1-2 CAA) returns to Vidas Field following a narrow 10-9 victory over Elon that snapped a four-game skid. The Dragons are led offensively by freshman Anne Madden and senior Kate Quinn, who have combined for 31 goals this season.
In the center circle, the Dragons rely on Mary Claire Heubeck, who has secured a team-high 38 draw controls. Defensively, Charlotte Ross leads the team with 19 caused turnovers and has 19 ground balls, while goalkeeper Lucy Dailey has handled the bulk of the minutes in the cage, recording 64 saves on the season.

ABOUT THE MATCHUP
Wednesday marks the 15th all-time meeting between Georgetown and Drexel, with the series currently deadlocked at 7-7. While the Dragons took the most recent meeting in 2021, the Hoyas have historically found success in the series, including a stretch of three consecutive wins from 2018 to 2020. Georgetown will look to maintain its perfect road record (5-0) this season against a Drexel squad that has earned all four of its victories at Vidas Field.
