Georgetown Drops Double Header to #4 Notre Dame

Georgetown's baseball team, despite collecting 20 hits and 13 runs in two games on Thursday, lost 15-4 and 17-10 against the fourth-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Georgetown dropped to 9-27 overall and 3-11 in the BIG EAST while Notre Dame improved to 29-5-1 on the season and 10-2 in the Conference.

Rightfielder Carlos Gazitua (Fr., Miami, Fla./Monsignor Pace) scored on first baseman Eric Santana's (Sr., Santurce, P.R./Edgewood) single in the top of the first of Game 1 giving the Hoyas an early 1-0 lead. The Fighting Irish fought back for four in the bottom half of the inning and eventually went on to score 15 runs, of which only eight were earned. The Hoyas added runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh led by Santana (2-3, 2 Runs, 1 RBI) and left fielder Jason Boice (So., Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), who ended the game 2-for-4 with an RBI.

In Game 2, Notre Dame took advantage of several costly errors by the Hoyas to score seven unearned runs, the difference in the 17-10 decision. Boice had another terrific game batting 3-for-five including a homerun with three runs scored and five RBIs. Centerfielder Jim Vankoski (Sr., Aston, Pa/Strath Haven) added three RBIs batting 3-for-5 and shortstop Jay Catalano (Sr., Hunting Valley, Ohio/Univ. School) also added three hits and three runs scored. In terms of hits and runs batted in, Georgetown produced their fourth best performance of the season with 13 and 10 respectively.

Georgetown travels to Villanova on Saturday, April 14 continuing their BIG EAST road trip with a double header against the Wildcats in Richie Ashburn Field at 12:00 p.m.
