Georgetown Baseball Falls to Davidson Wildcats 13-9

February 19, 2002

Davidson, N.C.-- Despite a 5-0 lead after the top of the second inning, the Georgetown baseball team was defeated 13-9 by Davidson College on February 18 at Wildcat Park.

Mike Green (McLean, Va./Landon School) scored his first of two runs for the Hoyas after Matt Carullo (Oakton, Va./Paul VI) hit a single down the middle at the top of the first. Michael Lombardi (Brookhaven, N.Y./St. Anthony's), who finished the contest 3-for-4 with two RBIs, hit a RBI single to bring home sophomore Carlos Gazitua (Miami, Fla./Monsignor Pace) putting the Hoyas up 2-0.

In the second stanza, Green, Tony Lee (Broomall, Pa./Malvern Prep) and Robert O'Hare (San Jose, Calif./Mission College) all came home to extend Georgetown's lead to five. However the Hoya lead would not last long as the Wildcats jumped out to a 13-6 lead after seven innings of play.

Jon Blodgett (Peabody, Mass./Peabody), Ron Cano (El Segundo, Calif./El Segundo) and Bret McLeod (St. Albert, Alberta/Paul Kane) rounded out the scoring for Georgetown, who fell to 0-5. Sophomore pitcher Kevin Field (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) took the loss for the Hoyas after pitching three innings.
