NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Georgetown baseball (4-8, 0-2) opened the 2003 BIG EAST schedule with a pair of losses, falling 4-1 and 5-1 to Boston College (8-6, 2-0) on Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium.

In the first game of the doubleheader the Eagles built a 4-0 lead in the fifth before Georgetown scored its only run of the game off Rob O'Hare's (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) RBI single to right. Eduardo Pena (Miami, Fla./Michael Krop) pitched the full nine innings for the Hoyas, taking the 4-1 loss.

BC jumped ahead early in the second game until Ron Cano (El Segundo, Calif./El Segundo) doubled in Jim Supple (Summit, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) and nearly scored Ryan Craft (Jupiter, Fla./The Benjamin School) from first, if not for excellent defensive play on the part of the Eagles. Down 3-1, Georgetown mounted a promising eighth inning as Cano singled to right and was moved to second on a groundout. With two outs Billy Quinn (Alta Loma, Calif./Alta Loma) and Michael Lombardi (Brookhaven Hamlet, N.Y./St. Anthony's) walked, loading the bases. Andrew Cleary (Weston, Mass./Belmont School) worked the count full but got caught swinging on a nasty pitch to end the inning.

The Eagles added two insurance runs in the ninth to close out the game 5-1.

Georgetown and Boston College face off for the series finale Sunday, March 16 at noon.
