Spring Showers Rain Out Georgetown Baseball

March 26, 2003

BETHESDA, Md. - Spring showers swamped what was shaping up into a promising outing for Georgetown baseball versus UMBC on Wednesday at Shirley Povich Field.

Three outs away from an official contest, the teams left the field after the fourth for a 50 minute rain delay that solved nothing.  Though no statistics count for the incomplete contest, starting pitcher Kevin Field (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) followed his 10 strikeout performace last week against Coppin State with seven Ks in four innings of work, maintaining a no-hitter.

Georgetown led 5-0 in the fourth after Timmy Jones (Ledgewood, N.J./Morristown) connected on a fastball, driving it over the fence in right for his first collegiate home run, bringing three across the plate.

At this time there are no plans to reschedule the contest.

Georgetown packs up for South Bend this weekend where Notre Dame awaits in a weekend series.  The Hoyas and Irish square off for two on Saturday, followed by the series finale on Sunday afternoon.
