Georgetown Field Hockey Suffers First Loss of the 2003 Season

WASHINGTON, D.C. ? One day after an impressive opening day victory, the Georgetown women?s Field Hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to the Saint Joseph?s Hawks, resulting in their first loss of the season. Saint Joseph?s improved their season record to 1-0, while Georgetown evened their record to 1-1.

Georgetown took the early lead on an unassisted goal by senior Dionna Jordan (Portsmouth, RI/ Portsmouth Academy) but the Hawks surged back to take a 2-1 halftime lead on goals by Ketelyn O?Brien and Nicole Antonini. The Hoyas evened the contest up with 16 minutes remaining, when sophomore Jessica Quinn?s (Cumberland, RI/ Lincoln School) scored her forth goal of the season. The game looked as if it was heading for overtime before the Hawks? Shannon Scott connected with O?Brien for her second goal, a one-timer from a crowded left of the goal. With less than two minutes to play, the O?Brien?s score ultimately sealed the victory the Hawks.

Georgetown was outshot by Saint Joseph?s 22-17, with the Hawks placing 14 shots on goal to the Hoyas? 11. Saint Joseph?s goalkeeper Courtney Huff made 9 saves for the Hawks, while freshman goalie Abby Winer (Rising Sun, MD/ Rising Sun) stopped 11 shots for the Hoyas.

Georgetown?s next game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, against Cornell. The Hoyas? next home game is on Monday, September 15, versus the University of the Pacific at 12 noon on Kehoe Field.
