Baseball Announces New Assistant Coaches

October 13, 2004

WASHINGTON, D.C. ?Georgetown University head baseball coach Pete Wilk has announced the addition of two new assistant coaches to his staff. Mark Van Ameyde, a 1994 graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy, who was an assistant coach at his alma mater for the last four years, joins the staff as the pitching coach.  Matt Bok, who will serve as the hitting coach, is a 2002 University of Notre Dame graduate who comes to Georgetown after spending the last two seasons playing in the Los Angeles Dodgers minor league system.

Wilk states, ?Both Mark and Matt have already made a positive impact on the student athletes. It?s real special to have (Bok) rejoin the Georgetown family after spending a year as a student here. They are a great addition to the staff and we are very eager to see what we?re capable of achieving this season.?

At Detroit Mercy, Van Ameyde worked with the pitchers and hitters, as well as serving as the recruiting coordinator over the past four years. Serving as the associate head coach and hitting instructor in 2004, Van Ameyde?s Titans led the conference in batting. Van Ameyde returned to University of Detroit Mercy in 2001 after spending the previous two years as head coach at St. Mary?s College (MI) where he lead his team to the 1999-2000 NSCAA World Series and produced an All-American outfielder. Van Ameyde also spent time as a pitching coach in the Great Lakes Collegiate League, where he worked with two current professional pitchers. As a player at UDM, Van Ameyde, a right-handed pitcher, compiled a 12-7 record with an ERA of 3.65 in 128.1 innings over two seasons. As a senior, he was named team MVP as well as being honored with First-Team All-Conference accolades after posting a 3.33 ERA in 83.7 innings pitched. Prior to playing at Detroit, Van Ameyde also pitched for Henry Ford Community College, where he helped to win a regional championship. Van Ameyde is currently pursuing a master?s degree in sport administration. He and his wife, Melissa, reside in Fairfax, Virginia.

Bok returns to the Hilltop after having played his freshman season at Georgetown before transferring to Notre Dame.  Bok is a switch-hitter who earned third team All-BIG EAST honors as a junior and senior.  As a senior, he helped lead his team to the College World Series and BIG EAST regular season and tournament championships, hitting .311 with 36 RBI along the way. Besides serving as the designated hitter, he also played at catcher and in the outfield.  During his career with the Fighting Irish, Bok hit .292 with 63 RBI, 24 doubles, six triples, and four homeruns in 142 games played.  He played summer ball with the Newark (N.Y.) Raptors of the Northeastern League (2000) and the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod League (2001).  After the 2002 season, Bok signed free-agent contract with Los Angeles Dodgers organization.

The 2005 Hoyas are looking to improve and continue the success of the 2004 season and make an impact in the BIG EAST when they begin their 2005 schedule on the weekend of February 12-13 at William and Mary.
