Women's Field Hockey Shutout By Holy Cross, 5-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Georgetown University women?s field hockey team (3-12-0) lost to Holy Cross (8-6-0) Sunday afternoon at Kehoe Field by a score of 5-0.

Holy Cross took the lead at the 21:36 mark of the first half, after Tara Welch scored her first of two goals on the day. The Hoyas defense, led by Caitlin Bump (Barrytown, N.Y./Emma Willard School) and sophomore goalie Abby Winer (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun), held Holy Cross scoreless for the remainder of the half, to stay down only 1-0. The Hoya defense faced nine shots, with eight of them coming on Holy Cross corners.

The Hoyas continued their defensive pressure to start the second half of play, but were unable to keep the Crusaders from scoring their second goal of the game at the 50:18 minute mark, by Jenna Cook. Holy Cross then put the game out of reach by scoring three goals in the last fifteen minutes of play, to make the score 5-0.

Holy Cross had 18 shots on the day as Winer made six saves, allowing three goals against. Sophomore goalie Caitlyn Faller (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) also saw time in net, allowing two goals and making three saves on the day. Sophomore forward Jen Kosloski (Drexel Hill, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) produced the sole Georgetown shot on goal for the day.

Georgetown takes on Penn at home on Wednesday, October 20 on Kehoe Field at 4 p.m.
