WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Georgetown University women?s field hockey team (2-9-0) lost to Lafayette (3-7-0) Sunday afternoon at Kehoe Field by a score of 3-0.
The Leopards jumped out to the early lead only 57 seconds into the game, off a goal by forward Missy Farrand, from an assist by teammate Amanda Eggleston. Five minutes later, the Leopards extended their lead to two after Farrand picked up an assist on a goal by forward Virginia Satterthwaite. The first half ended with the Leopards up: 2-0.
The second half picked up for the Hoyas, as they increased their offensive and defensive efforts against the Leopards. The Hoyas took ten shots in the second half and kept Lafayette scoreless for twenty-five minutes, until Farrand notched her second goal of the game, off a feed from Emily James. Farrand's five points on the day put the Leopards up 3-0 and sealed the win.
Sophomore goalie Abby Winer (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) faced five shots on the day, allowing three goals and saving two.
The Hoyas travel to Philadelphia on Friday, October 8 to take on Temple and then return home to Kehoe Field on Monday, October 11 to face Davidson at noon.
