10/30/2004

BOX SCORE

WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Georgetown University women?s field hockey team (3-15) lost to Bucknell (5-13) Saturday afternoon on Kehoe Field in the season finale by a score of 3-1.

Before the game, Georgetown honored its three departing seniors, tri-captains Caroline Cole (Boston, Mass./Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols), Meghan Devaney (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck), and Meghan Leahy (Windham, N.H./St. Paul's School ).

The Bison opened quickly, notching a goal just eight minutes in, as Kelly O?Brien scored off a Kelly Hoffman pass to take the lead. The Hoyas adjusted well, making several strong defensive stands during the half. With just under 12 minutes remaining in the half, Georgetown knotted the score at one, as Megan Carroll (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) slipped her own rebound past the Bucknell goalie.

Bucknell took the lead for good in the second half, with goals by Cara Turner and Lindsey Weller in the first six minutes of the half. The Bisons? Katie Urosevich assisted on both scores.

Georgetown goalie Abby Winer (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) made three saves in goal for the Hoyas. Also appearing was goalie Caitlyn Faller (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford), who added another save.

The Hoyas complete their season with 3 wins and 15 losses, but will return eight starters for the 2005 season.
