Field Hockey Drops Game to Temple, 4-1

October 8, 2004

WASHINGTON, D.C.--Georgetown women's field hockey (2-10-0) lost Friday afternoon, October 8, 2004 to Temple (6-5) by a score of 4-1.

Temple got off to a quick start, with Melissa Fritze scoring two goals for the Owls within one minute. Fritze struck first at the 5:33 minute mark and again at 6:23. Georgetown recovered from the quick goals and lessened the lead by taking advantage of a penalty corner as senior captain Meghan Leahy (Windham, N.H./St. Paul's School) nailed a goal at 13:35 off assists by senior captain Caroline Cole (Boston, Mass./Buckingham Browne & Nichols) and freshman Lauren Sheets (Lutherville, Md./Garrison Forest).  However, 10 minutes later, Temple's Ashley Shepps scored to give the Owls a 3-1 lead going into the second half.

Temple again scored quickly into the half off a goal by Jen Adamek, but that was going to be the only goal of the second half as Georgetown's defense stepped up and held the Owl's scoreless for the remainder of the contest. The Hoyas received defensive efforts from sophomore goalie Abby Winer (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) who finished with five saves and junior back Caitlin Bump (Barrytown, N.Y./Emma Willard School)

Georgetown will next face Davidson on Monday, October 11 on Kehoe Field at 12 p.m.
