PISCATAWAY, NJ ? Georgetown Women?s Field Hockey (0-1-0)lost their first game in a nail biter against Rutgers (1-0-0), 1-0. Rutgers Bobbi Jo Adams scored on a scramble in front of the goal with 17:05 to play in regulation on Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Rutgers Stadium Complex.
Georgetown sophomore goalkeeper Abby Winer (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) was a huge presence for the Hoyas, making three saves for Hoyas. Senior Caroline Cole (Boston, Mass./Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols), and juniors Casey Rock (Smithtown, N.J./Smithtown), and Caitlin Bump (Barrytown, N.Y./Emma Willard School) were also an important defensive unit for the Hoyas, stopping many drives by the Scarlet Knights and allowing only one goal off of 21 shots.
Several freshmen made their Hoyas debuts, including two that were in the starting lineup ? Lindsay Fisher (Bexley, Ohio, Bexley) and Lauren Sheets (Lutherville, Md./Garrison Forest). Freshmen Deirdre McShea (Strafford, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Annie Haffenreffer (St. Louis, Missouri/MICDS) also saw action.
Georgetown (0-1-0) next competes on September 4 at 2 p.m. against Appalachian State (1-1-0) at Richmond.
