BOX SCORE
WASHINGTON, D.C. ?The Georgetown Women?s Field Hockey (2-4-0) lost this afternoon to VCU on Kehoe Field by a score of 3-0.
The Rams got off to an early lead, with VCU?s freshman Carlot Verloop scoring at 25:33 into the first half off an assist by Ashley Cadwallader. Despite superb defensive play by the Hoyas, VCU countered with a goal by Cadwallader at 3:44 to take a 2-0 lead into the half.
The Hoyas tried to close the lead in the second half with great midfield efforts by seniors Meghan Leahy (Windham, N.H.) and Megan Carroll (Massapequa, N.Y., Massapequa), but VCU?s Madeia Mustafaa scored on a shuffle in front of the net just seven minutes into the second half. The game remained scoreless for the rest of the contest as the Rams defeated the Hoyas 3-0.
The Hoya defense was lead by goalkeeper Abby Winer (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) who played a spectacular game: allowing only 3 goals on 19 shots, and recording 11 saves, while junior Caitlin Bump (Barrytown, N.Y./Emma Willard School) made some key defensive plays to stop the Rams opposing drive.
The Hoyas will look to improve their record when they take on Yale on Sunday at Noon on Kehoe Field.
