WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Georgetown University women?s field hockey team (2-7-0) lost to Lock Haven (10-1-0) Sunday afternoon at Kehoe Field by a score of 6-2.
The Lady Eagles controlled possession throughout the majority of the game and quickly opened up scoring two and a half minutes into the game. Midfielder Kellie Kulina scored for the Lady Eagles to give them the early 1-0 lead. The Hoya defense settled in and kept Lock Haven scoreless for the next twenty minutes, before midfielder Renee Kemmerer knocked one past Georgetown goalie Abby Winer (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun), for the 2-0 lead. Right before the end of the first half, Courtney Hughes put Lock Haven up 3-0 off of a corner.
The second half saw the Lady Eagles take a 5-0 lead off of two quick goals by Sarah Huber and Samantha Stoyer. However, the Hoyas were able to get one of their own after a timeout, where freshman midfielder Kristin Twomey (Larchmont, N.Y./School of the Holy Child) scored on an open goal at the 50:19 minute mark. Lock Haven increased the lead back to five goals when Nikki Sweger netted a goal at the 61:55 minute mark. The Hoyas would not give up and were able to score their second goal at the 69th minute mark, after senior midfielder Meghan Devaney (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) placed two shots on goal and sophomore Jen Kosloski (Drexel Hill, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) banged in the rebound for the score.
Winer faced a tough day in goal for the Hoyas, allowing four goals against and recording five saves on the day. She played 45 minutes on the day, as sophomore Caitlyn Faller (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) came in halfway through the second half. Faller allowed two goals against and saved five shots on the day.
The Hoyas next home game is on Wednesday, September 29 against Towson at 3:30 p.m. on Kehoe Field.
