Women' Field Hockey Defeated by Towson 2-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Georgetown University women?s field hockey team (2-8-0) lost to Towson (4-6-0) Wednesday afternoon at Kehoe Field by a score of 2-0.

The first half was scoreless, with both Georgetown and Towson stopping the opposing drive. The ball was in Georgetown?s defensive side of the field for most of the half, with goalie Abby Winer (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) making four saves and defenders Caitlin Bump (Barrytown, N.Y./Emma Willard School) and Caroline Cole (Boston Mass./Buckingham Browne & Nichols) making key defensive plays. The Tigers out shot the Hoyas 9-0 at the end of the first half.

The second half was a battle of the midfield as both squads tried to notch a goal. The Hoya defense settled in and kept Towson scoreless for the next twenty minutes, before midfielder Ashley Bacon scored on an assist from Emily Swartz for the 1-0 lead at the 56 minute mark. The Hoyas tried to tie the game with Bump notching a shot off a corner, but the Tigers scored four minutes with Julie Lambi scoring off a pass from Ashley Bacon to go up 2-0. With time running out, Georgetown was defeated 2-0.

The Hoyas were outshot 27-1. Winer posted 14 saves.

The Hoyas next home game is on Sunday, October 3 against Lafayette at 12:00 p.m. on Kehoe Field.
