Field Hockey Loses Two in Richmond

September 5, 2004

WASHINGTON, D.C.--Georgetown Women's Field Hockey dropped to 0-3-0 this weekend at Richmond University after losing two close games to Appalachian State and Longwood University.

The Hoyas lost 1-3 against Appalachian on Saturday. Seven minutes into the first half, junior Megan Carroll (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) scored the first goal of the game, off an assist from sophomore Jen Kosloski (Drexel Hill, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara). Georgetown was unable to stop Appalachian from scoring, as they tied up the game by the end of the first half. Appalachian went on to score two more goals in the second half, defeating Georgetown 3-1. Georgetown's Abby Winer (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) had one save for the Hoyas.

On Sunday against Longwood, the Hoyas hoped to bounce back after the tough loss to Appalachian State. Despite the overall team effort, Georgetown fell to Longwood 2-0.

The Hoyas had a strong defensive effort, lead by seniors Meghan Devaney (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and Meghan Leahy (Windham, N.H./St. Paul's School). Having been outshot 22-10, the Hoyas stopped many drives by Longwood. Winer posted eight saves for Georgetown.

Georgetown (0-3) takes on UMBC Wednesday, September 8 away at 5 p.m.
