TAMPA, Fla. - The Georgetown University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-24, 30-21, 30-13) decision at the University of South Florida in BIG EAST action. The Hoyas fall to 5-14 overall, 1-6 in BIG EAST action while USF earns its first-ever league win.
Senior Rachel Nelson (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) and freshman Katherine Niesen (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) each hammered seven kills for the Hoyas. Sophomore Kate Fisher (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo Park) and Caitlin Boland (Naperville, Ill./Benet Acad.) set 14 and 12 assists, respectively.
Defensively, sophomore Katie Nulty (Santa Barbara, Calif./Laguna Blanca) had a team-best 12 digs.
For the game, USFout-hit Georgetown .310 to .083.
The Hoyas jumped out to a 7-3 advantage in the opening game before the Bulls went on an 18-7 run to take a 21-14 advantage. Georgetown fell behind by ten points, 24-14 before USF closed out the game 30-24.
Game two was much closer. The game featured 10 ties and three lead changes before the game was knotted at 19-19. USF went on an 11-2 run spurt and GU fell 30-21.
USF controlled game three from the start. The Bulls hit .594 while Georgetown hit .062 in the 30-13 defeat. With the score tied 6-6, USF outscored the Hoyas 24-7 the rest of the game.
Georgetown returns to action on Tuesday, October 18th when the Hoyas host George Washington University at McDonough Arena in a non-league match at 8 p.m.
