Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown field hockey team (3-11) hosts the University of Maryland-Baltimore County on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 3:30 p.m. on Kehoe Field. The Hoyas look to snap a five-game losing streak.
Georgetown comes off a 1-0 double-overtime loss to Maine last Sunday. The game remained scoreless until the 98th minute of play. Freshman goalkeeper Deirdre Crovo (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) started her fifth game of the season and recorded seven saves on the day.
The Hoyas have been shut out in the last three games. In those three games, Georgetown has been outscored, 8-0, and outshot, 60-13 by its opponents. The defense, led by senior captain Caitlin Bump (Barrytown, N.Y./Emma Willard School), has seen most of the action for the Hoyas recently.
The GU offense is ready to score, not having found the back of the cage since the Oct. 8 game at Davidson, when the Hoyas lost 3-2 in overtime. Freshman forward Maggie Farrand (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) leads the team points (14), goals (5), and assists (4).
UMBC (2-12) also comes off a loss to Maine, 3-0, at UMBC Stadium last Saturday. The Retrievers and the Hoyas share five common opponents this year. Both teams defeated St. Francis (Pa.) and dropped contests to Lehigh and Drexel. The Hoyas defeated Towson and Longwood while the Retrievers fell to both schools.
In last year's meeting at UMBC, the Hoyas won, 2-1.
