Washington, D.C -- The Georgetown University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-15, 30-25, 30-19) BIG EAST match to visiting St. John's in a BIG EAST match at McDonough Arena. Georgetown falls to 6-18 on the season, 2-9 in conference matches.
Senior Rachel Nelson (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) ripped a team-best ten kills while sophomore Katie Nulty (Santa Barbara, Calif./Laguna Blanca) notched ten digs.
In the opening game, St. John's posted an 11-2 run, including eight straight points after the game was tied at 6-6 to take a 17-8 advantage. Georgetown would get no closer than 3 points the rest of the way.
Game two was much closer although the Red Storm won the game, 30-25. After trailing 12-5 and 18-11 the Hoyas battled back with four consecutive points on Nelson's service rotation to close the gap to 18-15. Georgetown would not trail by more than three points the rest of the game before St. John's closed out the game.
In game three, the Red Storm raced out a 12-4 lead and never looked back. St. John's hit .355 in the final game while the Hoyas were plagued by a .194 hitting percentage.
Georgetown continues with their four-match homestand on Friday, November 4 when the Hoyas host Louisville in a BIG EAST match that begins at 8 p.m.
