Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown field hockey team (3-13) lost to Cornell, 3-0 today on Kehoe Field. Georgetown loses its seventh straight contest.
Although Cornell (10-5) outshot Georgetown, 10-6; the Hoyas were able to produce twice as many penalty corner opportunities as the Big Red, 8-4.
The game seemed even with very little happening in the beginning. Possession stayed in the middle of the field and neither team attacked early. At 16:29, Cornell's Lindsay Moyer broke away to score an unassisted goal, giving CU a 1-0 lead, it would take into halftime.
The second half saw the Hoyas produce eight penalty corners, however GU was unable to convert any of them. At 54:04, Mandy Malzberg scored the second goal for the Big Red off a feed from Helena Haas. With less than two minutes remaining, Belen Martinez finalized the Cornell lead to three off a penalty corner. Blair Corcoran fed in the corner, while Natalie Serle was the setter, both receiving an assist.
GU goalkeeper Deirdre Crovo (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) posted three saves today while the team recorded one.
Cornell's Lizzie Goldblatt posted two saves on the day and recorded the win.
The Hoyas will host Vermont for their final competition of the season tomorrow, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. on Kehoe Field.
