New Brunswick, N.J. - Katherine Niesen (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) led the Hoyas with 11 kills and a 44% hitting percentage but it wasn't enough as the Georgetown volleyball team lost their fourth consecutive match in a 3-0 defeat at Rutgers. GU falls to 5-13 overall, 1-5 in BIG EAST action.
Katie Nulty (Santa Barbara, Calif./Laguna Blanca) and Rachel Nelson (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) each had ten kills for GU while Kate Fisher (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo Park) handed out 37 assists to go along with a match-high 12 digs.
In the first game, the Hoyas battled from a 5-3 deficit to tie the game at 18-18 and again at 21-21 before RU scored the next three points en route to a 30-23 win.
Game two was tied at 12-12 when Georgetown committed three errors as the Scarlet Knights pulled ahead by four, 16-12. The Hoyas then took a 29-26 advantage but Rutgers tallied the game's final five points and earned winners via blocks on two of the game's final three points for a 31-29 win.
The third game was a nailbiter as there were 11 ties, including deadlocks at 27-27, 28-28 and 29-29 and neither team went ahead by more than two points before Rutgers won it, 31-29.
Georgetown is not back in action until October 22, when they travel to DePaul on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. BIG EAST match before a Sunday meeting at Notre Dame on October 23.
