Bethesda, MD--The Georgetown University baseball team (12-7)defeated St. Peter's 20-5 in the final game of the three game series. The Hoyas held the edge in the series, 2-1. Junior Ryan Craft tied a Georgetown single game record for runs with five. Matt Johnson added three hits and three runs while Andrew Cleary drove in four RBI.
The Hoyas got on the board early and never looked back. Scoring five runs in the first, the Hoyas brought Billy Quinn and Parker Brooks across the plate off a single by Cleary. Jim Supple then singled, driving in Cleary and Craft. Timmy Jones then scored off an error to bring the Hoyas lead to five.
St. Peter's answered back in the second, scoring two runs. Rob Scordato homered for the first run. Denny Alexander then singled, driving in Mike Scordato. The Hoyas met St. Peter's drive in the second, also bringing in two runs. The Hoyas scored runs by Johnson who was brought in by Cleary. Craft then scored off a passed ball.
In the third, St. Peter's scored one run, with Chris Hernandez driving in Wayne Guarino. Georgetown scored five runs, where Johnson doubled to bring in Joe Graziano and Brandon Davis. Craft followed Johnson's lead, and singled to bring in Johnson. Quinn then scored on a bases loaded walk, and Craft followed the next play to make the scored 12-3.
Georgetown scored four more runs in the fourth, where Parker Brooks was brought across the plate by Johnson. Craft then singled to bring in Johnson. Quinn then scored off an error by the third baseman. Timmy Jones brought in Craft, to make the score 16-3.
St. Peters added a run in the sixth, where Hernandez scored off a sacrifice fly by Kris Brus. The Hoyas scored four more runs in the seventh, with Danny Gronski, Matthew Bouchard, Craft, and Matt Harrigan all tallying runs. Bouchard, Derek deGrijs, and Mark McLaughlin all tallied RBI.
In the top of the eighth, St. Peter's scored one more run, where R. Scordato scored on a wild pitch. The score would remain the final, 20-6.
Stephen Burns earned the win for the Hoyas, while Kevin Kallert was credited with the loss.
The Hoyas will next host Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, March 22 at Shirley Povich Field. First pitch is set for 3 p .m.
