Bethesda, MD--The Georgetown University baseball team lost 9-5 against Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, March 22 at Shirley Povich field. The Hoyas fall to 12-8 while Mount St. Mary's improve to 5-7. The Hoyas were led by Billy Quinn and Ryan Craft who each tallied a home run and a run scored; Quinn drove in three RBI on the day and Craft drove two RBI.
Mount St. Mary's got off to a quick lead, scoring three in the first. Justus Yocum doubled to start the game and scored off a double by Eric Smith. Joe Kotula later doubled, bringing in Smith and Joseph Hayes. The Mount later added three in the third, extending their lead to six. Adam Schlenoff doubled, to drive in Hayes for his second run of the game. Kotula then singled to drive in Schlenoff and Hayas.
The Hoyas answered back in the bottom of the third, scoring three to cut the lead to 6-3. Quinn tallied a homerun to drive in Joe Graziano who had doubled, and Brandon Davis who had reached on an error.
In the sixth, Mount St. Mary's scored one to bring the lead to 7-3. Danny Fowler scored on a double by Matt Eiden. The Hoyas answered back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs to bring the score to 7-5. After Matthew Johnson singled, Craft blasted a homerun to bring them both home.
The Mount extended their lead in the top of the ninth, scoring two runs. Eiden scored off a hit by Stephan Fay, and Hayas was brought in off a sacrifice fly by Kotula. The Hoyas had one last chance to tie it up in the ninth when Timmy Jones, Jim Supple and Drew Dargen reached base, but the Hoyas were unable to bring them home as the Hoyas fell 9-5.
The Hoyas tallied seven hits to the Mount's 11, yet Mount St. Mary's committed three errors to the Hoyas one. Andrew Germuth earned the win for Mount St. Mary's while Grady McConnell was credited with the loss.
Georgetown will begin their BIG EAST schedule when they take on Notre Dame in a double-header in Indianapolis, Indiana on Thursday, March 24. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
