Annapolis, Md. - The Georgetown University baseball team lost 3-0 to Navy on Tuesday, March 29. The Hoyas fell to 14-11 with the loss, while Navy improved to 4-15-1.
Navy got the scoring going in the fourth inning with some timely two-out base hits. Senior Matt Lukevics got the rally started with a base hit and moved to second a batter later as D.J. Faldowski followed with a single to right-center field. Freshman William Maugeri stepped to the plate and drove in Lukevics with a blooper that fell just inside the right field line.
The Mids tacked on a run an inning later to go up 2-0 as Jonathan-Matthew Johnston came in on a wild pitch.
Navy freshman Mitch Harris completed the scoring for Navy in the seventh with an RBI single that scored Mike Garcia, who tripled to the wall in right-center field earlier in the inning.
Georgetown tried to mount a rally in the eighth as it loaded the bases with one out after Matthew Bouchard and Mark McLaughlin singled, and Parker Brooks walked. However, Navy senior Tom Van Dam came on in relief and induced Danny Gronski to fly out to shallow right and then struck out Billy Quinn to end the threat.
Georgetown will be back in action Wednesday, March 30 as it travels to George Mason. First pitch is set for 2:30 pm.
