BRADENTON, FL.The Georgetown University baseball team defeated Northeastern (4-4) 5-3 on Saturday, March 5. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 4-4.
The first four innings were low scoring for both teams tied at one. Northeastern got off to a quick lead, scoring in the top of the first, yet Georgetown tied it up in the second with Parker Brooks driving in Matt Johnson.
In the top of the fifth Northeastern takes the lead, but the Hoyas were quick to respond. In the bottom of the fifth, Billy Quinn hit a sacrifice fly to score Mark McLaughlin. Junior Ryan Craft kept the momentum for the Hoyas, hitting a two-run homerun for the Hoyas, making the score 4-2. Two innings later, Timmy Jones hit a solo home run to extend the lead to 5-2.
Northeastern scored one more run in the top of the ninth, but were unable to drive in any more runs as the Hoyas claimed victory 5-3.
Senior captain Eddie Pena tallied the win for the Hoyas while Tom Braun earned the save.
The Hoyas will next face Central Michigan on Sunday, March 6 at 7 p.m. in Bradenton, Florida.
