WASHINGTON, DC - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse team will host BIG EAST opponent Connecticut (9-3, 3-1 BIG EAST) on Saturday, April 23, at 1:00 p.m. on North Kehoe Field. A win for the Hoyas would earn Georgetown (10-3) its fifth-consecutive BIG EAST title.
Georgetown is 28-0 entering into the contest after posting a 24-0 record from the beginning of league play in 2001 through the 2004 season. This season, the Hoyas are 4-0.
No. 8 Georgetown is coming off a 13-11 upset victory over No. 4 Virginia on Wednesday, April 20, in Charlottesville. It marked the first victory for the Hoyas over the Wahoos in seven meetings dating back to the 1995 season. Sophomore attacker Coco Stanwick led Georgetown in scoring with five goals and one assist for six points, while senior Sarah Robinson and sophomore Maggie Koch split in goal for GU to seal the victory. Robinson played the first half of the game and made five saves while allowing seven goals. Koch took over in the second stanza and rejected four Virginia shots and allowed four goals.
Stanwick leads the Hoyas in scoring this season with 59 points on the strength of 42 goals and 17 assists. She has scored in all 13 of GU's contests in 2005. In the latest NCAA Statistical Leaders List released April 17, Stanwick was ranked ninth in the nation in points per game (4.42) and tied for 15th in goals per game (3.08). She has earned four BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors thus far.
Robinson is also ranked among the nation's best. Robinson is ranked ninth in the country in goals against average with 7.43. She earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week ending April 10th for a 10-save outing in only 30 minutes of play in GU's 14-6 win over Notre Dame. Robinson allowed just one goal in the game.
The Hoyas are also ranked as a team in the NCAA Statistical Leaders List from April 17. GU ranks fifth in scoring defense (6.83) and ground balls (27.33), and seventh in caused turnovers (11.83). Georgetown is also ranked 12th in win percentage (.750) and 18th in scoring offense (11.92).
