Georgetown Falls to Boston College in Doubleheader

Chestnut Hill, MA-- The Georgetown University baseball team was swept by Boston College in a doubleheader at Shea Field on Sunday, April 24. The Hoyas lost the first game 6-3, and fell 10-4 in the second.

With the first game tied 3-3, Boston College sophomore Ryan Hutchinson singled through the left side and classmate Jared Mcguire singled to left to put runners on first and second for Delaney. The left fielder won the game with one swing of the bat, driving the game-winning shot over the right-center field wall.

Delaney also hit a solo home run in the fourth inning that gave the Eagles a 3-1 lead.

The Hoyas (20-21, 4-11) tied the game with two runs on three hits in the top of the fifth. Shortstop Matt Johnson led off with a double to right and with one out, advanced to third on Matt Bouchard's infield single. Parker Brooks followed with an RBI double that plated Johnson and Bouchard scored later in the inning on an error by BC shortstop Marco Albano.

BC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when McGuire blasted his fourth home run of the season to left center.

The Eagles senior pitcher Mike Wlodarczyk earned the win.

In the second game, the Eagles got off to a quick start. Leading 3-1, the BC bats erupted for five runs on four hits in the bottom of the seventh. Delaney broke the game open with two-run double and catcher Shawn McGill also ripped a run-scoring double in the rally. Senior Tom Mackor capped the inning with a two-run single.

The Hoyas answered with three runs on four hits in the top of the eighth, but the Eagles scored two more in the bottom half of the inning to put the game away.

Boston College pitcher Joe Martinez (6-2) tossed a nine-inning complete game, striking out 11 for the win.

The Eagles and the Hoyas will finish their three-game series on Monday at 1 p.m.
