Hoyas Fall to Navy in Baseball

April 27, 2005

Box Score

Bethesda, MD-- The Georgetown University baseball team lost to Navy 8-3 Wednesday evening, April 27 at Shirley Povich field. The Hoyas fall to 21-23, while Navy improves to 12-28-1. Navy claimed both games of the season series, defeating the Hoyas 3-0 on March 29. Andrew Cleary and Ryan Craft led the Hoyas, each blasting a homerun.

Navy started the scoring in the second and never looked back. The Midshipmen scored five runs in the second. Jared Munde scored the first run of the game off a single by Matt Lukevics. James Lee then brought in Lukevics to make the score 2-0. Lewis Hobbs grounded to second, and brought in Doug Silverman who had singled to right center, moving Lukevics around to third. Jonathan Matthew Johnston then moved his way around the bases, stealing second, and then crossing the plate on a throwing error. James Lee added the fifth run of the inning, scoring on a single by Trevor Thompson.

The Hoyas held the Midshipmen scoreless for the next five innings, while adding three runs of their own, but that would not be enough for the win. Georgetown added one run in the bottom half of the second on a solo home run shot by Craft to make the score 5-1. Cleary drove in two RBI in the sixth, on a two-run homer to drive in Billy Quinn who had singled one at bat earlier.

Navy added three more runs in the seventh to seal the game, with Johnston, Mitch Harris and Munde each tallying a run.

Navy's Daniel Kovalcik earned the win, while Travis Danysh was credited with the loss for the Hoyas.

The Hoyas will next travel to BIG EAST opponent Connecticut on April 30. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
