Box Score

WASHINGTON, DC - Georgetown field hockey (1-4) loses to Drexel (4-2) 2-1 today on Kehoe Field. The Hoyas defense was tough but could not hold off the Dragons.

The Hoya defense was impenetrable for the first 28 minutes of the game. The first half saw seven saves by the Hoya defense and 11 shots taken by Drexel. Goalkeeper Abby Winer (Rising Sun, MD) recorded seven saves today while the team recorded five, a total of 12 on the day for the Hoyas. In the 29th minute of play, Drexel's Rachel Zeldin found Catherine Chiara who scored the first goal of the game. The Hoyas were down 1-0 going into the half.

The second half saw freshman Maggie Farrand (Baltimore, MD) score her first goal of the season off a pass from sophomore Deirdre McShea (Strafford, PA) in the 11th minute of second half play. Just over five minutes after Farrand's equalizing goal Drexel's Heather Bloemker set up Emily Horvat who scored the winning goal for the Dragons. The Dragons were victorious 2-1.

Farrand's tying goal in addition to her four assists from previous games puts her in a tie for most points this season with a total of six. She is tied with fellow freshman Katie Lachman (Bryn Mawr, PA).

The Hoyas return to the action this Saturday, September 17 at 11:00 a.m. in Lewisburg, PA to face the Bucknell Bison.
