Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University women's lacrosse standout Maggie Koch (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside School) has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday night while junior attacker Sara Zorzi (Timonium, Md./Roland Park Country School) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
It marks the third straight week Georgetown has had a student-athlete win a weekly award.
Koch, a sophomore goalkeeper who earns her first weekly award, matched a career-high with 11 saves and grabbed a pair of ground balls in her fourth career start, helping to lift the then No. 8 ranked Hoyas to a 10-7 victory over No. 13 Syracuse. The sophomore made five saves in the second half, including two during an Orange rally in the final minutes of the game.
Zorzi, who earns a spot on the Honor Roll for the first time, had a tremendous game in the win over Syracuse, notching her first career hat trick to go along with two assists and was one of three Hoyas with five ground balls.
Georgetown improved to 9-0 over the Orange in the all-time series.
Earlier this season, Stephanie Zodtner (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) was named Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 27 while Laura Cipro (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) also won Defensive Player of the Week on March 7.
The Hoyas will be back in action again on Wednesday, March 15 when they host William & Mary in a non-league contest. GU's home opener will begin at 3:30 p.m. on North Kehoe Field.
