Washington, D.C. - The Hoyas women's golf team shot their way to fifth place on Tuesday at the Anteater Invitational, held at Santa Ana Golf Club in Santa Ana, California. After the third and final round of competition, the Hoyas stood at 126-over par 990 (345, 328, 317). Brigham Young paced the field with a +78, 942, while tournament host UC-Irvine finished second with an 83-over par 947 score. Nevada and Penn State finished third and fourth, respectively, to round out the top five. Georgetown's final round 317 was the third best score of the round, pulling them ahead of Montana by six strokes, for the fifth place finish.
The Hoyas were led by senior Nicole Hayashi (Westlake Village, Calif./Thousand Oaks), who fired a 22-over par 238, en route to a tie for sixth place. Her final round 76 was a team-low for the tournament. Senior Christy Larrimore (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Spaulding) followed with a +29, 245-shot effort, good enough for 16th place. Freshman Chelsea Curtis (Mashpee, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) delivered a 37-over 253 for 25th place, while Jenna Winokur (Springlake, N.J./Wall High School) finished two places back at 27th, with 257-shot, +41. Junior Maggie Ward (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) rounded out the Hoya competitors in a tie for 32nd, with a 46-over par 262.
The Hoyas continue their season when they host the two-day Hoya Invitational. Action will take place all day Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 at Raspberry Falls Golf Club in Leesburg, Virginia.
