Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University Field Hockey Head Coach Laurie Carroll announced a group of seven student-athletes who will attend the University in the fall of 2006. The Hoyas return 13 letterwinners, seven who started last season. The 2005 team went 3-14, 10 of those games decided by one goal.
The seven student-athletes entering in the fall of 2006 will be part of the first squad to compete in the BIG EAST Conference.
"We are thrilled to announce the Class of 2010," Carroll said. ""We are confident that these elite student-athletes will have an enormous impact on our program and play an integral role as we embark on our new challenge of entering the BIG EAST. This is the strongest recruiting class this program has seen, evident by the fact that we are facing the toughest challenge in program history. These individuals are thrilled to be a part of the Georgetown community, but they are also passionate about field hockey and excited to take on the challenge of establishing a winning tradition at Georgetown and in the BIG EAST."
The Class of 2010 is boasts on an offensive flavor with five midfielders and two forwards. Willemijn Wijsman (Hilversum, The Netherlands) is a midfielder who has played seven years for different stages of the Hilversum Mixed Hockey Club and now captains the girls U-18 team. Wijsman was selected the U-16 regional team in 2004 and helped her team to a 2006 first division indoor hockey championship. She was rewarded with a youth hockey trainer certificate by the Royal Dutch Field Hockey Federation in 2005 and made the honor roll in 2003 and 2004.
Katrina Pregibon (Summit, N.J.) is a four-year varsity letterwinner in field hockey. Her team was the 2005 Somerset County Champions and the Colonial Hills Conference Co-Champions. She earned all-conference, county and state honors her senior year, scoring 17 goals and eight assists, with one goal scored in the state final. Pregibon was named to the New Jersey Field Hockey Coaches Association (NJFHCA) All-Stars second team and the Courier News All-Area second team in 2005. She was a member of the New Jersey Group I state finalist team.
Kristen Volpe (Pennington, N.J.) is a two-sport athlete in field hockey and track and field. A two-time captain, Volpe was named all-conference and received Trentonian and Trenton Times accolades in 2004 and 2005. In 2005, her club team, the Spirit Eagles, took second place in the U-19 United States Field Hockey Association (USFHA) National Indoor Tournament. She also holds the school record in the pole vault, triple jump and the 4x400 meter relay and received the National Women in Sport Leadership Award in 2006.
Alice Murnen (Princeton, N.J.) is a two-sport athlete in field hockey and ice hockey. She was named to the Central Jersey Field Hockey Coaches Association (CJFHCA) First Team in 2005 and was a Trenton Times NJ Prep B Field Hockey All-star in 2004. The midfielder was named captain of her high school team in 2005, the same year they were the Mercer County Champions.
Jen Sachs (North Andover, Mass.) is a four-sport athlete in field hockey, swimming and diving, outdoor track and lacrosse. Her club team, Cape Ann Coalition, received the 2005 USFHA National Festival gold medal and Sachs was named League Player of the Year (MVP). A two-time Eagle Tribune Field Hockey All-star, Sachs captained her 2005 high school team to the Division I North State semi-finals. The team scored a season-high 78 goals and allowed 14 goals against them, a new team record.
Lindsay Moramarco (Andover, Mass.) is a three-sport athlete in field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse. The midfielder is a two-time Eagle Tribune field hockey all-star and a two-time Eagle Tribune ice hockey all-star. Moramarco's field hockey team was a New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) quarterfinalist. Moramarco holds a NEPSAC ice-hockey record for two goals scored in eight seconds.
Midifelder Chelsea Aiken (Hudson, Ohio) is a three-sport athlete in field hockey, fastpitch softball and basketball. A two-time captain of her high school field hockey team, she was the 2004 MVP when her team was second in the league. Aiken is 13th on Western Reserve Academy's career points list with 43 (15 goals, 13 assists). Aiken is a four-time Ohio High School Field Hockey Coaches Association (OHSFHCA) Scholar-Athlete.
