Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University softball team held their first annual On Deck Circle Softball Awards Banquet on Sunday, September 24. The banquet celebrated the accomplishments of the 2006 inaugural softball team and to showcase the 2007 squad.
Former softball player Lauren Camp (B' 06) was recognized as the first-ever President of the On Deck Circle, an organization of alumnae, parents and friends of Georgetown softball whose primary purpose is to promote a heightened awareness of and an active interest in the Georgetown University Softball program.
Former Hoya Cathy Richter was named the 2006 Most Valuable Player for her efforts during the season, as she led the team with a .338 batting average, 22 hits and 13 runs batted in (RBI).
A number of "firsts" were recognized at the banquet including the program's first hit, which occurred on March 2, 2006 from the bat of sophomore Katherine Incantalupo (Forest Hills, N.Y./Townsend Harris). Incantalupo also scored the program's first run on March 10. Freshman Katie Zoch (Hackensack, N.J./Choate Rosemary Hall) was acknowledged with the program's first RBI and the 2006 squad was recognized for the program's first doubleheader sweep (over Coppin State on April 26, 2006).
Eleven student-athletes from the 2006 team were named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athletes, including senior Lacey Campbell (Louisville, Ky./The Louisville Collegiate School), Incantalupo, junior Katharine Lang (Princeton Jct., N.J./The Lawrenceville School) and junior Brittany Sonnichsen (Madison, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall).
The banquet also highlighted the 2007 team that features seven returners and nine newcomers.
