Georgetown Men's Soccer Defeats Providence, 2-0

Oct. 6, 2007

Box Score

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's soccer team defeated BIG EAST opponent Providence this afternoon at North Kehoe Field, 1-0. Junior midfielder Corey Zeller (Toms River, N.J./Toms River) scored his team-leading second and third goals of the season as the Hoyas improved to 3-7-0, 2-4-0 in the league. Today marked the first multi-goal game for the Blue and Gray this season. With the loss, the Friars fell to 5-4-1, 2-2-1 in the conference.

In the 75th minute, sophomore midfielder Scott Larrabee (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Loyola HS of Los Angeles) took a corner-kick from the right side of the pitch. After a failed clearance by the Providence defender, the ball fell to Zeller on the left side of the penalty area. From about 15 feet, Zeller had a clear look at goal and his shot skipped off the hands of PC goalkeeper Timothy Murray for the first goal of the game.

"We weren't even sure that our scoreboard worked until late in the second half today," said Head Coach Brian Wiese. "After you get that first one, it's just a huge relief and the kids start to play more at ease. Then we tacked another one on late, and like all conference wins, it's a good one to have."

Two minutes later, PC defender Matt Otte took Zeller down in the box. The ensuing foul led to a penalty-kick for the Hoyas and Zeller calmly beat Murray to the right side for the final tally of the contest.

Goalkeeper Matthew Brutto (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) made three saves for his second shutout of the season.

Georgetown's next home game will be Tuesday, October 9 against George Washington. The game is slated to kick-off at 3 p.m. from North Kehoe Field.
