Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown softball team lost both games of a doubleheader today at the Towson Center Softball Complex. The Tigers shut out the Hoyas, 6-0, in the first game and took a 6-3 decision in the second game. The Hoyas drop to 5-18 overall on the season.
In the second game, the Hoyas got off to a quick start with a single from freshman Jadig Garcia (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake), who was promptly brought home on an RBI-double by freshman Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) doubled to plate Garcia for the 1-0 GU lead.
Towson knotted the game at 1-1 with back-to-back doubles from Ashley Stiner and Meghan Zwoyer. The Tigers would then take a 3-1 lead after scoring two runs in the third.
With runners on first and second, junior Katharine Lang (Princeton Jct., N.J./The Lawrenceville School) reached second on an error by Stiner and freshman Suria Bahadue (Miami, Fla./Monsignor Edward Pace) crossed the plate for the second GU run of the game, cutting the deficit to one.
The Tigers added one run in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead.
The top of the seventh inning would mimic the Hoyas' first inning with a Garcia single starting the GU rally. Peters knocked another double and brought home Garcia for the third and final run for the Blue and Gray.
Freshman Sarah Kamenski (Mountain View, Calif./St. Francis) pitched six innings and allowed six runs on 10 hits.
In the first game, the Tigers did most of their damage in the third, scoring four of their six runs, with the additional two coming in the fifth inning.
Freshman pitcher Shannon Johnston pitched six innings for Towson, allowing a mere two hits for the win. Garcia managed to go 1-for-2 against the righty with a single in the fourth inning as sophomore Christina Gallinari (Crestwood, N.Y./The Loyola School) recorded the second hit on a pinch-hit single in the seventh inning.
Freshman pitcher Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) put in six innings of work in the first game and allowed six runs on nine hits and two walks.
The Hoyas return to action on Thursday, March 15 when they travel to Baltimore, Md. for a single game against Coppin State at the Bachman Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
