Georgetown Women's Lacrosse Holds Annual Banquet

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's lacrosse squad held its 2008 banquet earlier this fall and honored six student-athletes with the team's top honors. The Hoyas will finish up their fall season this weekend as they host a six-team tournament at Multi-Sport Field on Saturday.

Junior Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) received the top honor of the evening as the 2008 Most Valuable Player. Kaestner was just the second sophomore in program history to earn First Team All-Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association honors. She was also an IWLCA Regional All-American and a First Team All-BIG EAST award winner. Kaestner led the squad in goals (52), points (65), free-position goals (9) and caused turnovers (33).

Sophomore Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) was named the team's Sheehan Stanwick Rookie of the Year after an outstanding freshman campaign. Kirr was a Womenslax.com All-American and a member of the IWLCA All-Rookie squad. She was a Second Team Regional All-American and a Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree. Kirr led the nation's freshmen with 27 assists on the season.

Graduated senior Amelia Wesselink (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Acad.) earned Most Improved Player honors. Wesselink started all 19 games at defender after missing her junior season with a knee injury. She came back to be one of GU's top defenders in 2008 with 11 groundballs and three caused turnovers to her credit.

The Kim Simons Coaches Award was given to graduated senior Patty Piotrowicz (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh). The award honors the player who shows a positive attitude and leadership along with coachability. Piotrowicz was a 2007 All-BIG EAST honoree and one of the 2008 co-captains.

Zan Morley (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside School) received the Bulldog Award for her outstanding effort and contributions to the squad as a team co-captain. Morley had 16 points on the season with 14 goals and a pair of assists. She ranked second on the team in free-position goals with five.

The recipient of the Denis Kanach Hoya Award was senior Bridget Noon (Annapolis, Md./St Mary's). The honor is given to the player who is an unsung hero, unselfish and shows exceptional team spirit. Noon was an IWLCA Regional All-American and team co-captain. The defender ranked third on the squad with 27 caused turnovers.

The Hoyas will finish up their fall season hosting a tournament at Multi-Sport Field on Saturday. Of the six teams (Boston College, James Madison, Duke, Virginia, Johns Hopkins and GU), three were 2008 NCAA Tournament qualifiers and four finished the season ranked in the top 20 by the IWLCA. The Hoyas will begin at 9 a.m., with a game against Boston College. Games will continue throughout the day with Georgetown's final game scheduled for 4:30 p.m., against Virginia.
