Recap | Box Score

Georgetown Head Coach John Thompson III
"I think that as much as I came in here the other day and regardless of the score, it didn't feel like we played well against American. I thought we played very well today. I was extremely nervous, Horace has done a terrific job with that program and turn that program around quickly."

Jessie Sapp
On winning by such a large margin
"A game like that is fun as long as you do what you have to do, like what coach tells us to do on both ends of the court. Any game can be fun especially when you're up by that much. It was fun, but we just wanted to focus. It was a learning game for us; we wanted to work on things that we needed to learn in order to be better in the future. It was fun but it was a learning experience for us too."

What they felt the team learned:
"Just sticking with our stuff. We felt that we could get baskets early, but we didn't want to do that; we wanted to work on our stuff, continue to do our offense. The other guys ... the rest of the team they grew they knew how to stick with our stuff ... when stuff got bad they stuck with our stuff, so that was a learning process for the others guys too."

DaJuan Summers
"We did what we needed to do to sustain it. I think guys on the team know what coach always says, it's about us and I think we bought in to that. So guys know that no matter who the opposing team is, we need to do the things we do, the way we need to do them. So I think guys know the difference between this team and the team we play Saturday. I can't say there is any negative side to us playing so well against these guys tonight."

Savannah State Head Coach Horace Broadnax:
Opening Statement...
"I guess the last week or so we've been on an emotional roller-coaster. We played extremely well against Michigan and with the exception of poor coaching we probably could have won that game. Then we came back and beat Bowling Green. We tried to use motivation to build off of that, but sometimes being in games like that is fool's gold. Georgetown is a tremendous program. Obviously, I'm biased toward their success in the BIG EAST, but I think they have a tremendous opportunity to be successful."

On Savannah State's improvement under Broadnax...
"We're Division I in name. The resources here and the type of care that I had from your toe nails to the top of your head as an athlete and trying to get you back on the court. In my four years I probably missed one day of practice and I was hurt a lot. That's the difference between our program and a Georgetown. I'm not trying to make excuses but you have have's and have not's in Division I."

On Savannah State's offensive woes...
"We can't make shots. I tell the guys you never see guys working on defense. If you go by a basketball court in D.C. you see guys working on jump shooting, so we feed off offense. If the ball doesn't go in we can't set up our press and we can't get excited about playing defense. If you look at the stats against Michigan we shot 70-percent in the first half, the ball was going in. The ball wasn't going in tonight and we were lackluster on defense for a little bit."

On Georetown in person opposed to on film...
"They got Freeman, Monroe and Sapp. If you look at them you can tell they lift. They just get to spots quicker. The level of play that they play in they understand the type of athlete they need and they type of conditioning they need to do. We thought the top five was strong, so I thought we were going to need to wear them down, we kind of wore Michigan down a little, but we fatigued and were still hungover from the Michigan game."
