Washington, D.C. - Head Coach Pete Wilk announced that Georgetown Baseball will be welcoming eight new players to the fold this upcoming season. Billy Cosmopulos, Nick Geary, Will Harris, Alex Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Bobby Kirby, Andy Lentz and Rand Ravnaas comprise the incoming class that will try and help the Hoyas move up in the BIG EAST pecking order.
Billy Cosmopulos
"Billy is a big, strong kid at 6'6" and is well rounded as a three sport athlete," Head Coach Pete Wilk said. "While he needs some refinement this year, he should be good further on down the line."
Cosmopulos served as captain for his football, basketball, and baseball teams at Moses Brown High School in Providence, R.I. During his senior year, he was named MVP of the football and baseball teams. A right-handed pitcher, he received Rhode Island Baseball All-Star honors in 2007 and 2008 and was an All-State Selection in 2008. As a junior and senior, he was named First Team All-Division.
Nick Geary
"Nick is a good catch and throw guy," Head Coach Pete Wilk said. "He should provide good depth at the catching position and vie for innings early in his career,"
A four year letterman at Ransom Everglades in Coconut Grove, Fla., Geary played under Coach Steve Hodgetts and was named team captain his senior year. He received All-Dade County honorable mention honors in his freshman and senior year and was named offensive player of the year after his junior season before being named MVP his senior year.
Will Harris
"Another big right handed pitcher at 6'4", Will has a chance to pitch a lot this year," Head Coach Pete Wilk said. "He has good velocity and great breaking stuff."
Harris, a right-handed pitcher from Winter Park, Fla., played three years of varsity baseball at Trinity Preparatory School. He led his team to a second-place finish in the 3A FHSAA Baseball State Tournament in 2007.
Alex Johnson
"Alex is a strong kid with a good arm and a strong right handed batter," Head Coach Pete Wilk said. "We expect him to contribute early on and to continue to contribute throughout his career."
Johnson is an outfielder who graduated from the Episcopal School of Dallas. He played baseball and basketball in high school, where he captained both teams in his junior and senior years. At the Episcopal School, he started in centerfield and pitched on the varsity for three years. He received All-Southwest Preparatory Conference Honors all three seasons. He spent three years on the basketball team where he led the team to the Southwest Preparatory Conference championship his senior year, and was a two-time letterwinner as a wide receiver on the football team.
Kevin Johnson
"Kevin is versatile player at shortstop, second base, and third base," Head Coach Pete Wilk said. "He has a strong arm and hits well from the right side, so expect him to see some playing time early in his career."
Johnson is an infielder from Peabody, Massachusetts. He graduated from Belmont Hill with Cum Laude and academic honors. He played varsity baseball for four years under Coach Edward Gallagher and varsity basketball for three years. Playing for Belmont Hill, he was captain and team MVP his senior year and received All-League honors in his sophomore, junior, and senior years. He won the Independent School League and Massachusetts batting title as a senior, hitting .565 with seven homeruns, 24 RBI, and 21 stolen bases. He also played for the Pittsburgh Pirates scout team with John Wells and the Wakefield Merchants in the Intercity Wood Bat League. From 2005-2007 he was a Lynn Invitational All-Star, and he played on the BayState Games Northeast team, where he was named team MVP in 2006 and 2007. In June of 2007 he was invited to play in the USA Baseball Tournament of the Stars in Cary, NC, which served as a tryout for the U.S. National Team..
Bobby Kirby
"Kirby is another big right handed pitcher who will be very good for us later on down the road," Head Coach Pete Wilk said. "He could see some action early in his career."
Kirby played three years of varsity baseball, basketball, and football at Loyola High School in Towson, Md. During his senior year, he captained the baseball team to the most wins in school history. He also led the team to three-consecutive playoff appearances while on the team. He received All-County and All-Conference honors. Outside of baseball, he led the football team to two championships. Academically, he was a member of the National Honors Society, Peer Education team and received the Blair Leadership Scholar Award and the Thomas Kelley Medal..
Andy Lentz
"Andy is a good athlete with good baseball instincts," Head Coach Pete Wilk said. "He can play catcher and infield and may start behind the plate during this year."
Lentz was a four-year starter and letter winner in baseball and a three-year letter winner in football, where he was captain of the team his senior year. He received All-Catholic, All-League in the Detroit Catholic League, and All-District honors as a sophomore, junior and senior on the baseball team. During his junior year he was named All-Region, All-State Second Team, and was a member of the Detroit Catholic League Championship Team. As a senior he led his team to the Division 1 State Championship, as well as receiving All-Region and All-State First Team honors. He was a member of the Dream Team and the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches' Association All-Star East team, which played at Comerica Park. He was Student Body President and President of the National Honors society, as well as receiving the Distinguished Senior award and Senior Leadership Award.
Rand Ravnaas
"Rand is a tremendous athlete who should see time in the outfield early in his career," Head Coach Pete Wilk said. "He runs well, hits with power, and is one of the best athletes we've ever recruited here."
A left-handed hitter and outfielder, Ravnaas chose to play baseball at Georgetown after receiving major college football offers. He started on the varsity baseball team all four years at All Saints Episcopal School in Fort Worth, Texas, and also spent three years on the varsity football team. Rand received Team MVP and All- Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) honors after his junior and senior year. He was named to the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram Private School All-Area Team during his senior year, when he also won the All Saints Hall of Fame award. In the off season, he played for the Arlington A's where he was a starting outfielder. On the gridiron, he received Team MVP, All SPC and Ft. Worth Star-Telegram Private School First-Team All-Area Offense awards his junior and senior year.
