BOSTON - The Georgetown University women's rowing team had two boats compete at the 2009 Head of the Charles Regatta on the Charles River on a cold, rainy Sunday in Boston, Mass. The Hoyas lightweight eight finished third, while GU's champ four finished tenth in Georgetown's second head race of the fall season.
The Georgetown University lightweight eight, consisting of Juliana Pugliese, Maryellen Curran, Erin Landy, Kayla McNeill, Alex Vezina, Lili Meyer, Morgan McGovern, Laura Donaldson and Jacqueline Pasulka finished in third overall behind Wisconsin and Vesper Boat Club and were the second collegiate boat behind just Wisconsin.
For the Hoyas it was their top finish at the Head of the Charles.
"They rowed a really aggressive race for the entire three miles so we are proud of the result," lightweight head coach Jim O'Connor said. "During the fall we try not to spend a tremendous amount of time focusing on results, but I am really happy for this group and particularly our seniors that they were able to be a part of our best ever finish in the event."
The Hoyas champ four, including Libby Hambleton, Amanda Savage, Lindsey Bragg, Alexis Zink and Meg Ginivan finished in tenth place behind Brown and in front of the New York Athletic Club in a time of 20:02.202
Georgetown returns to the water on Sunday, October 25 to take part in the Princeton Chase. GU will also compete at the Head of the Occoquan on October 31 in its final race of the fall season.
