Ford's Five Down No. 13/18 Johns Hopkins

Feb. 25, 2009

Box Score

Baltimore, Md. - Molly Ford scored five goals and the No. 7/9 Georgetown women's lacrosse squad defeated the No. 13/18 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays (1-1), 11-6, at Homewood Field Wednesday afternoon on ESPNU. Ford's five scores tied her career-high for the second game in a row as the Hoyas improved to 2-0 on the season.

Just 21 seconds into the game, Hopkins scored off of a free position shot. Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) then came back and hit her sixth goal of the season off of an unassisted shot on the left side to get the Hoyas going. GU added two more when Jacqueline Giles (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) and Ford both cut through the middle and Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) found them wide open on two separate occasions to make it 3-1 midway through the first half. The sophomore added her third assist of the game as she passed across the goal and Giles jumped to volley it in.

Kirr finally scored a goal of her own 19 seconds later when GU took it down right off of the draw and Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) managed to get it to the attacker giving the Hoyas a four-point advantage. Unfortunately, the lead would not hold as JHU scored two more times before the end of the half. Logan McGraw (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) gave Georgetown six total goals in the half getting one late once again off of the pass from Kirr to make it 6-3 at the break.

It was Ford who scored first in the second half taking the pass from Kaestner, but her prettiest shot was yet to come. After Megan Bloomer (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) picked up the ground ball in the midfield, the senior captain streaked down the field and found Ford next to the goal. Ford backhanded it in to make it 8-3 in favor of the Hoyas.

Midway through the second, Ford was pushed down behind the goal and off of the restart, found Kaestner in the middle who went up for it making it a 3-0 Hoyas run to open the half. The pair reversed positions on the next goal as Kaestner worked it to Ford making the score 10-3 Georgetown.

Hopkins ended a scoreless drought with a goal at 7:36 after the Hoya defense held JHU without a score for 25:11. Off of the ensuing draw control, Emily Bock (Baldwin, Md./Notre Dame Prep) found the back of the cage allowing the Hoyas to hold on to the seven-point advantage.

With the seconds ticking away, the Blue Jays managed to score two more but it was not enough to catch the Hoyas making the final 11-6.

Georgetown out-shot Hopkins 26-23 and had four more ground balls. Ford led all scorers with five goals and one assist for six points while Kirr added one goal and four assists for five total points. Kaestner had a goal and three assists for the game. Caitlin Formby (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) received the win in goal with eight saves to her credit.

The Hoyas will play No. 20/RV Denver on Sunday at Multi-Sport Field. The opening draw is scheduled for noon. Live stats and a webcast featuring Chuck Timanus will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
