Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad was picked eighth in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association preseason poll. The Hoyas were already selected second in the BIG EAST and seventh by Lacrosse Magazine so far this preseason. Georgetown will open the season on February 21 at Multi-Sport Field against cross-town rival George Washington.
The Hoyas finished 2008 12-7 overall and 3-2 in the BIG EAST. GU returns its top three scorers including All-Americans Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) and Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) who combined for almost half of the team's total goals last season. On defense, senior All-American Jordan Trautman (Mystic, Conn./Loomis Chaffee School) returns after leading the squad with 45 groundballs and ranking second in caused turnovers with 29.
Georgetown will face a number of ranked squads this season including Northwestern, Syracuse and Duke who were selected one, two and three by the IWLCA. The Hoyas will also play No. 6 Maryland, No. 9 North Carolina, No. 11 Notre Dame, No. 15 Johns Hopkins and No. 19 Denver later in the season.
Georgetown is in the midst of preseason and will face George Washington on February 21 at Multi Sport Field to begin 2009.
