WASHINGTON – The No. 23/24 Georgetown women's lacrosse team (6-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) returns to the Hilltop tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, March 28, to host the University of Connecticut Huskies (3-6, 0-1 BIG EAST) at Cooper Field. Opening draw is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE HOYAS
Georgetown enters its conference home opener riding the momentum of a gritty 11-10 comeback victory over Marquette in the BIG EAST opener last Saturday. After trailing by two at the half, the Hoyas utilized a disciplined second-half effort to secure their sixth win of the season and remain a perfect 5-0 on the road.
The Blue & Gray currently feature one of the most efficient defenses in the country, anchored by graduate goalkeeper
Leah Warehime. Warehime leads the BIG EAST in save percentage (.489), a mark that also ranks 18th nationally. Her steady presence in the cage has helped the Hoya defense limit opponents to 8.00 goals per game, the second-best mark in the conference.
Gracie Driggs continues her standout senior campaign, recently being named to the 2026 Tewaaraton Award Watch List. Driggs led the Blue & Gray in Milwaukee with a game-high five points (4G, 1A) and leads the squad with 23 goals through nine games. She currently ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in goals per game (2.56).
Junior Annie McGovern continues to be a focal point for the Hoya offense, pacing the team with 31 total points. Her 21 goals and 10 assists have provided a consistent spark for the Blue & Gray, helping Georgetown maintain the second-highest scoring margin in the BIG EAST (+2.67).
The Hoya attack also features significant depth and playmaking ability. Junior
Lauren Steer leads the team in assists with 13, ranking third in the conference in assists per game (1.44).
Additionally,
Molly Davies has emerged as a reliable late-game option, currently totaling 18 points (11G, 7A) after netting the game-winner against the Golden Eagles. She is joined by
Sophia Loschert, who ranks third on the squad in goals (19).
Defensively, the Hoyas are supported by
Molly Wood, whose 1.44 caused turnovers per game rank among the conference leaders. In the center circle,
Amanda Brille and Driggs have combined for 57 draw controls to help the Hoyas maintain possession.
ABOUT THE HUSKIES
UConn (3-6, 0-1 BIG EAST) travels to the District looking to snap a three-game skid following a loss to No. 18 Denver in their conference debut. The Huskies are led by senior Megan O'Brien, who paces the team with 30 points and 18 goals through nine games. Rayea Davis remains a consistent threat on the attack with 19 points. In the cage, Sofia Oximana has handled the bulk of the minutes, recording 78 saves on the season. Defensively, the Huskies rely on junior Abby Beran, who leads the team with 41 ground balls, 32 caused turnovers, and 32 draw controls.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
This marks the 29th meeting between the two programs. While Georgetown holds a 19-9 lead in the all-time series, the Huskies have taken the last five matchups, including a victory in the 2025 regular-season finale. The Hoyas are looking to secure their first win over UConn since 2022 and move to 2-0 in BIG EAST play for the first time since 2022.
