Washington, D.C. - Georgetown (17-34, 8-18 BE) dropped their season finale this afternoon at Rutgers (22-31, 8-19 BE), 5-3. Senior Kelly Muir (South Pasadena, Calif./Loyola) hit a two-run home run, his first of the season and Sean Lamont finished the season with a team-leading 50 RBI's after a run-scoring single.
Georgetown scored all their runs in the eighth as Greg Pustizzi (Medford, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) singled to left field before Muir unleashed a two-run bomb to right. Tommy Lee (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) was hit by a pitch for a Georgetown single-season record 14th time after the homer. Lee also holds the record for most times hit by a pitch in a Georgetown career with 27, despite playing only two years after transferring. Then the BIG EAST's leading base-stealer stole second and third to create an opportunity for Lamont, who singled through the left side for GU's third run.
Will Harris (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) struggled on the mound, allowing five runs in 2 2/3 innings. Pablo Vinent (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) and Tommy Isaacs (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Bolles) pitched in relief for the Hoyas and held Rutgers to only one hit over the final 5 1/3.
Rutgers scored five runs in the third to provide them with all the offense they would need. A throwing error on a steal attempt got Tim Reilly home with the first run and Jaren Matthews plated the next two runs with double to the gap in left-center. Jarred Jimenez followed with a double of his own to plate Matthews and RU capped the scoring on a sacrifice fly. On the mound, the Scarlet Knights used five different pitchers on the afternoon and four of them kept the Hoyas from scoring.
