Three Hoyas Named to 2010 Tewaaraton Watch List

March 5, 2010

WASHINGTON - The Greater Washington Sports Alliance announced the 2010 Tewaaraton Watch List Friday with three Hoyas making the cut. Seniors Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) as well as junior Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr Academy) were all named as possible candidates for college lacrosse's highest honor. Georgetown will be tested on Saturday as the No. 5/5 Hoyas travel to Evanston, Ill., to face the No. 1/1 Northwestern University Wildcats at 2 p.m. ET.

All-Americans Ford and Kaestner are no strangers to the Tewaaraton list as both were nominees last year. Kirr is making her debut on the watch list after an outstanding sophomore campaign. Kaestner was last season's Co-BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year after leading the team in draw controls and ranking third in scoring. Ford led the Hoyas in points last year with 72 and was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection. Kirr already ranks as one of Georgetown's assists leaders with 62 in her two-year career. She was GU's second-leading scorer last season and a Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree.

Georgetown is 1-0 on the season after defeating John's Hopkins 15-9 at Multi-Sport Field on February 24. Ford led the way for the Hoyas with seven points on six goals and one assist, as Kaestner notched five points (3G, 2A) and Kirr tallied two goals as well as one assist.

For her efforts, Ford was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll along with classmate Caitlin Formby (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) who led the Hoyas in goal with 10 saves in 60 minutes.

The Wildcats went undefeated last season on their way to their fifth-straight national championship. The squad is 3-0 so far this season handily defeating Massachusetts, Stanford and Cal-Berkeley. Leading the way for the Wildcats is sophomore Shannon Smith who has 14 goals and five assists for the year. Seniors Katrina Dowd and Danielle round out those in double digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Georgetown is 0-3 all-time against Northwestern with its only road meeting coming in 2008 when the Hoyas were edged, 7-6. Last season at Multi-Sport Field, the Blue & Gray lost 15-4. The squads' only other meeting was during the 1989 season when Georgetown fell 12-1.

The game will be streamed live through the Big Ten Network, fans can access the stream for $2.99 at BigTenNetwork.com.

The game will also be replayed on the Big Ten Network on Sunday, March 7 at 10 p.m. ET.

The opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET at Lakeside Field.
